Church Unveils New Organ
Bishops to appear Monday at St. Joseph’s ceremony
By Dick Clarke
The work is done.
The recently completed pipe organ at St. Joseph’s Church
in Camillus – built by the church’s music director,
Tomasz Lewtak – is ready for its dedication. The ceremony
will take place at 7 p.m. Monday at the church, 5600 W. Genesee
St.
Roman Catholic Bishop James M. Moynihan will preside at the dedication
ceremony and Auxiliary Bishop Thomas J. Costello will offer the
dedication speech. Ulrik Spang-Hanssen, professor of organ from
the Royal Danish Music Academy in Denmark, will perform on the
new organ.
‘This is the perfect way to dedicate the organ,” Lewtak
said. “You invite a star to present the organ to everybody.”
The honored guests are Krzysztof W. Kasprzyk, consul general of
the Republic of Poland, and Monika Fabijanska, director of the
Polish Cultural Institute.
The public is invited to celebrate the completion of 4 ½
years of work by Lewtak and a few volunteers, work that created
the organ, which features more than 2,500 pipes and a fine-furniture
façade of mahogany and white ash.
There is a reception after the recital across the parking lot
in the church center.
The musical program will feature selections by Leon Boellmann,
Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Antonio Vivaldi and
Edward Elgar.
